Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi lo begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The players will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many entrants can get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in just about every poker game.

The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

Although it seems complicated initially, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an exciting array of betting options and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, along with a few shooting for the low. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
