Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi low starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players can get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.

The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of play with ease.
