Learning Omaha Secrets
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants can get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same notion in just about all poker games.
A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem complex at first, following a few hands you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an amazing collection of betting choices and seeing that you have many players shooting for the high hand, along with many battling for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha/8.
