Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same notion in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem difficult initially, following a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi/lo offers an overwhelming collection of betting choices and because you have several individuals battling for the high hand, along with many battling for the low. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha hi/low.
