Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha/8 begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many players get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in just about every poker game.

The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, after a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 provides an amazing range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high hand, as well as a few trying for the low hand. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
