Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. Another round of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.

While it seems complicated at the outset, after a few hands you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing assortment of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, along with many battling for the low. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi-low.
