Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi/low begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants can get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in nearly every poker game.

A low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

Although it seems complicated at the start, after a few hands you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi/low offers an overwhelming collection of wagering possibilities and because you have many players battling for the high, as well as many shooting for the low.
