Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some players get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

While it seems complicated at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting array of wagering choices and because you have several individuals trying for the high hand, as well as a few shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
