• Omaha Hi Low: Basic Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants can get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at first, after a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi-low provides an overwhelming assortment of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high, as well as a few shooting for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha hi low.
