Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi-low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. Another round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of the game with ease.
