Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some entrants get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at the outset, following a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi/low offers an amazing array of wagering choices and seeing that you have many players trying for the high, along with a few battling for the low. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
