• Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha hi/lo starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. Another round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in almost every poker game.

The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting array of wagering possibilities and because you have many individuals battling for the high, along with several battling for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
