• Omaha Hi-Low: Basic Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

While it seems complex at first, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an amazing range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals battling for the high, and several trying for the low hand. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha/8.
