Learning Omaha Secrets
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha hi lo begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. Another round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some players often get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same notion in just about all poker games.
The lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem difficult at first, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an overwhelming assortment of betting possibilities and because you have numerous individuals battling for the high, and several trying for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
