Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further round of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants often get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

Although it seems complex at the outset, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of play with ease.
